Choose your tree
Fraser, Balsam and Canaan fir appear at many Wisconsin growers, with spruce and pine choices varying by farm. Stumpf’s specializes in spruce; Valley View offers firs, spruces and white pine. Retail lots provide a different visit from cutting in the fields. Compare the format, species and height range, and check remaining selection before traveling.
Compare the full price
Some growers price by the foot, while others use species, height bands or individual tags. Valley View has a separate rate for trees taller than nine feet. Buffalo Bill’s adds tax and a transaction fee for card or electronic payment. Keep tree size, taxes, payment conditions and any baling or loading charges beside the advertised amount.
Match the selling day
A short selling weekend and a daily seasonal lot need different plans. Buffalo Bill’s has a three-day selling window, with field cutting ending before pre-cut sales. Sandhill offers selected weekends and Black Friday; its last day depends on inventory. The individual guides distinguish selling hours from Santa visits, workshops and other events.
Plan the whole visit
Saws, wagons, shaking, netting and vehicle help vary by location. Some farms include warm drinks or invite visitors into a Christmas shop; other stops offer separate workshops, delivery or seasonal markets.
