Christmas tree farm guide

Christmas tree farms in Arkansas.

From Pea Ridge in the northwest corner and Paragould in the northeast to Ozark, Charleston and Paris in the west, Mabelvale, Benton and Lonoke around Little Rock, and Fordyce and Hamburg in the south, these eleven Arkansas farm guides explain which trees each farm grows, whether it posts a price, what it handles for you and when its season starts. Virginia pine and Leyland cypress lead the fields, ten of the eleven describe choosing and cutting a tree, and several also sell Fraser fir.

Pick a region and a tree

Two farms sit in the north, Wonderland in Pea Ridge and The Crow’s Nest in Paragould. Ozark (Christmas Tree Lane), Charleston (Pine Grove) and Paris (Johnson Family) lie in the west. Four are in the middle of the state: Bradbury in Mabelvale, Papa Santa’s in Benton, Mistletoe in Lonoke and McAlpine in Bismarck. Tidwell in Fordyce and Old Milo in Hamburg are in the south. Virginia pine is named at nine of the eleven farms and Leyland cypress at nine (at McAlpine only in directory listings), Carolina Sapphire at five and Blue Ice at two, while Murray cypress is named only at Pine Grove. Six farms list Fraser fir, four of them pre-cut, and Wonderland also names Scotch pine, white pine and Turkish fir. Papa Santa’s grows only Leyland cypress, and Johnson Family names only Virginia pine as ready to cut.

Compare the whole price

Five farms publish no tree price at all: Pine Grove, Bradbury, McAlpine, Mistletoe and Johnson Family. Four post one: Wonderland prices each tree by tag color, from $69.99 for about 5 to 6 feet to $187.99 for 10 to 11 feet; The Crow’s Nest says its Virginia pine averages $8 to $12 a foot; Christmas Tree Lane says its trees average $11 a foot; and Old Milo lists Leyland cypress at $11 a foot on a price page that carries no season date. Tidwell’s $10 a foot comes from last season’s page, and Papa Santa’s gives only an earlier-season Facebook reply of $8 a foot up to 10 feet and $9 above, with its current price unpublished. Ask for the price before you cut.

Ask what the farm handles

Six farms name a shaking, netting or baling service: Wonderland shakes, nets and loads, Tidwell offers a free shaker, netting and baler, Pine Grove’s staff cut, shake and bale at no charge, Bradbury shakes, bags and helps load, Old Milo nets and shakes for free, and Johnson shakes and nets every tree and helps load it. The Crow’s Nest names only a saw, and Papa Santa’s provided saws and string in an earlier-season reply. Christmas Tree Lane, McAlpine and Mistletoe publish nothing about shaking, netting or loading. The Crow’s Nest delivers pre-cut Fraser fir within 5 miles of Paragould’s city limits on two Saturdays, and Johnson Family delivers trees within five miles. Pine Grove adds $3 for a card payment.

Time the season

Mistletoe’s Early Bird Weekend is November 20–22, with its regular season beginning November 27. Wonderland, Christmas Tree Lane, Pine Grove, Bradbury and Papa Santa’s open on Saturday, November 21, and The Crow’s Nest opens that day at noon (its Facebook post says November 20). McAlpine opens on Thanksgiving, November 26, and says this is its last season. Old Milo opens Friday, November 27 and Johnson Family on Saturday, November 28. Closing dates run from December 6 at The Crow’s Nest (then by appointment) and December 12 at Wonderland to December 24 at McAlpine and Christmas Day at Bradbury; Mistletoe and Johnson Family post none. Tidwell has posted no dates for this season, only last season’s weekends, so call before a long drive.
