Choose your Christmas tree.
The farm grows more than 6,000 trees in three varieties. Virginia pine is its first and most popular tree, with a fragrant pine smell and strong branches. Leyland cypress has no pollen, so the farm calls it easy on allergies. Carolina Sapphire is the newest addition, with a strong citrusy smell and a light color. The farm publishes no size range, so judge each tree against its tag.
Every tree is tagged with a color that stands for its price, and signs around the farm show the colors. You can also pre-tag a tree during normal hours and cut it later; the farm says to check the calendar for days and times, and publishes no pre-tagging fee, deposit or deadline. The farm adds that its trees have a very extensive root base and do not transplant well.

Choose and cut your tree, and how the tags work
The farm invites you to choose from more than 6,000 trees and to choose and cut your Christmas tree. Walk the field, find a Virginia pine, Leyland cypress or Carolina Sapphire that suits you and read its colored tag. Prices vary with size, quality and species; red is $60 and blue is $70, and the farm says its prices this season average $11 a foot. Signs around the farm list the other colors.
If you want to choose now and cut later, the farm allows pre-tagging during its normal hours of operation. A Facebook post this season also says some trees at the farm are a little broken or crooked and deserve a home; it gives no price or discount for them. The farm’s own invitation is to “choose and cut your Christmas tree”; it does not say whether it lends saws, and it does not list shaking, netting, baling or loading help, so ask at the farm.

Jolly the snowman, hayrides, snow and Moose
The farm lists its fun as meeting Jolly, its cheerful live snowman, scenic hayrides through the farm, “snow on demand” for a wintery experience, a Christmas gift shop, seasonal treats, photo spots and meeting Moose, its Saint Bernard. A Facebook post inviting visitors to the opening day also mentions hot cocoa. The farm gives no prices for these and does not say whether any is free, so ask at the farm.
Moose wanders the farm and likes to rest in the Christmas Cabin. The farm says it can usually coax him into giving autographs and posing for pictures, and that kids will more than likely get to meet him. The farm ties “all amenities” to Saturdays and Sundays and marks its weekday afternoons “tree purchase only”.

The farm does not say whether the $6.00 covers the food or the crafts, or what they cost, so ask when you come. December 4 is also one of the limited-service Friday afternoons on the season schedule; the farm does not explain how the two fit together.

Caring for your tree at home
The farm’s tree-care page gives five steps. Make a fresh cut at least an inch from the bottom of the trunk just before the tree goes in its stand, even if you cut it yourself on a choose-and-cut farm. Choose a spot away from heat sources. Water immediately in a stand that holds at least one gallon. Add nothing to the water, since plain tap water is best. Check the water level daily and never let it drop below the cut.
The page also reprints an article warning that aphids can ride in on a tree and wake up in a warm house, and suggests asking whether a tree was treated. It says it is not unusual for a tree to drink two gallons the first day. The farm’s FAQ adds that its own trees do not transplant well.
