This is the farm’s last season

On its Facebook page on October 30, the farm told visitors that the trees are ready for sale and that this is its last year, after 45 years. Plan a visit this season if you want a tree from the farm.

How the trees are grown and shaped

The farm’s posts this season give a glimpse of the work behind the trees. In late August it said its two sons come home to shear the trees, and on September 1 it posted that the last Virginia pine had been sheared that morning.

On October 10 the farm said it had started spraying colorant on the trees, and it says nothing more about what the colorant is or which trees receive it.

Price, payment and what to ask

The farm posts no price for trees or anything else: not published; confirm at the farm. It does not say which payment methods it accepts; directory listings disagree, with one saying credit cards and an older one saying cash and check, so ask the farm which it takes.

The farm’s page does not describe wreaths, garlands, tours for schools, tools, cutting or loading help, pet rules, parking, restrooms or accessibility, so ask at the farm.

The McAlpines and the farm

Harold and Bobbie McAlpine own the farm. A newspaper profile of the farm said they bought the land and planted about 10,000 trees to start, that trees take about six years to grow, and that the farm sold about 1,500 trees a year and planted about the same number. They also manage and harvest timberland.
