Find your tree
Choose your Christmas tree.
Boiling Spring Tree Farm grows a variety of fir trees across its fields, and offers a selection of blue spruce on request: ask at the red building. It sells both choose-and-cut and pre-cut trees. The Maine Christmas Tree Association’s undated listing describes balsam–Fraser fir crosses and Colorado blue spruce up to 11 feet, while the farm does not publish sizes or say how many pre-cut trees it has.
For choose-and-cut, you park following the signs and go to the red building first, where you are given a tag to mark your tree, a saw to cut it down, and instructions on which trees the farm is selling. Plenty of handsaws are available. You may bring your own saw, but no chainsaws, gas or electric; battery reciprocating saws are permitted.
After cutting, drag your tree to the end of the road for pickup, or straight down to the netting area. The farm nets almost all trees at no additional cost, though occasionally a tree is too large for the netter. Return to the red building to warm up and pay, then show the paid tag at the netter. Twine for tying the tree to your car is free, but the farm cannot tie it on for you.

The red building: tags, saws, hot cocoa and payment
The red building is the center of the visit. You check in there first, collect your tag, saw and the season’s instructions, and return after cutting to warm up and pay. The farm serves hot cocoa and candy canes there, and says that both are free. Wagon rides also start and end at the red building.

Opening day, hours and open days
The farm starts its season every year the day after Thanksgiving at 9am and closes at 4pm. This season that is Friday, November 27, according to the farm’s Facebook page. The farm has not published a closing date or the days it will be open after that.
It keeps a limited supply of trees because new ones take a long time to grow and it needs inventory for future years. Check the farm’s website and social media for open days before you drive out, especially later in the season.
Wagon rides, hot cocoa and Santa
The farm’s wagon rides are free and run regularly throughout the day, weather permitting. They start and end at the red building and take you around the fields for views of the farm. Hot cocoa and candy canes are free.
You can almost always expect Santa Claus to make an appearance; the farm posts specific days and times on social media.
Handmade wreaths, sprays and holiday decor
The farm sells a large variety of handmade wreaths, sprays and other holiday decor. The Maine Christmas Tree Association’s listing describes wreaths in many sizes and sprays and swags. The farm’s website lists no wreath sizes. The farm says it has won first place in the National Christmas Tree Association’s decorated-wreath competition.
Photographers
The farm offers packages for professional photographers to book their own sessions on the fields. Bookings are first come, first served, and a liability waiver, emailed to the farm, is required. The booking page is a form and shows no package price. If you are a family looking for a photographer, the farm asks you to contact the photographer directly.
Dogs and practical conditions
The farm loves dogs. All dogs must be leashed at all times, and you are asked to clean up after them in the fields, where other dogs and many families are likely to be. The farm has not published parking surface, terrain, restroom or accessibility details, or a weather-closure rule beyond “weather permitting” for wagon rides.
Finding the farm and the family behind it
The farm is at 101 Gordon Road in Dayton, right off Route 5. When you arrive, plenty of signs direct you where to park. Its visit page has a Get Directions button.
The Meserve family bought the Gordon Road property and a field on Gould Road in the 1970s and planted its first Christmas trees in the 1980s. The farm describes over 40 acres of trees, and says Clem and Merri’s granddaughter Arianna and her husband Charles now run it with them. It has won state-wide recognition at Fryeburg Fair and has presented a tree to the governor at the Blaine House. The farm is named for a spring that bubbles through a sandy bottom and never freezes.
Contacts
For questions about the farm and its trees, the farm says to call or text Arianna at 207-890-2578, or email boilingspringtrees@gmail.com. The farm’s website also has a contact form, and it posts updates and Santa days on its Facebook page.
