Find your tree

Choose your Christmas tree.

Piper Mountain invites you to walk the fields and find your perfect tree. The farm provides hand saws; chain saws are not allowed because of its insurance. After you cut, the farm shakes the tree clean, drills it and wraps it for you, all free.

The farm also sells pre-cut trees, including taller trees, with the price marked on each one. The farm does not name its tree species or sizes. Outdoor check-out is available for anyone who prefers not to go into the gift shop.

The red-barn gift shop, donuts and hot cider

The big red barn holds a gift shop the farm describes as full of locally made goods, ornaments and Christmas cheer. It serves homemade donuts from Rowes Orchard and hot cider from its neighbors at Mainely Apples. The farm does not say whether the donuts and cider are free or what they cost; confirm at the farm.

HEPA air filters and far-UVC light run in the gift shop. If you are immunocompromised or need special accommodations for a safer visit, the farm asks you to let it know.

Wreaths, kissing balls and centerpieces at the farm

The farm makes fresh wreaths, kissing balls, centerpieces and swags, and recommends pre-ordering large barn wreaths and garland. It is taking orders for big wreaths from 36 to 84 inches, suited to a barn or business; email pipermountain@gmail.com to order. These cannot be shipped and are local pickup only. Prices for barn wreaths, big wreaths and garland are not published, so ask when you order. The wreath greens are gathered from the farm’s own woodlands.

The online shop: wreaths, kits and centerpieces

Separately from the visit, the farm sells handmade balsam wreaths and kits through its online shop. The wreaths are 22 inches, handmade and double-sided. The shop ships free to the lower 48 states, charges follow-up shipping to Alaska and Hawaii, and begins shipping in mid-November.

The table lists the shop’s prices. Wreaths are named by their decoration: the Mainely Morning, Moose, Cardinal, Snowflake, Blueberry and Candy Cane wreaths are $68.99 each.

Opening weekend rides, hot dogs and Santa visits

For opening weekend, November 21–22, the farm says Drafty Acres will give horse-drawn carriage rides on Saturday and Hart Farm will serve its grass-fed hot dogs and sausages at Lulu’s Hot Dog Hut. Prices and ride times are not given. The farm says to check its social media pages for later food trucks, Santa visits and other additions; no dates or prices are posted for those.

Corporate gifting, wholesale wreaths and fundraising

For businesses, the farm sends handmade wreaths in holiday paper and a signature gift box. Send it a spreadsheet of addresses and your ideal ship date; custom gift packs and branded designs are available by request. No prices are published.

The farm is a wholesale wreath provider for schools, churches, athletic clubs, florists and Christmas tree farms in Maine. Its wholesale wreaths are double-sided balsam fir and undecorated, with a minimum order of 50, for pick-up only. The wholesale price is not published. The farm is also the official Trees for Troops pickup location for Maine, where growers donate trees and ornaments for military families.

Dogs, terrain and weather

Dogs are welcome on a leash and under control, and you are asked to clean up after them. On Saturdays horses are at the farm, so the farm suggests keeping a dog home if it has never seen a horse. Piper Mountain describes itself as a real farm in rural Maine: wear good shoes and warm clothes, and expect icy or muddy conditions at times.

The farm has not published parking, restroom or wheelchair-access details or a weather-closure rule; ask before you come if any of these matter to you.

Tree care and Tree-cycle

The farm’s care page says to keep the tree outdoors out of wind and sun until you are ready for it, then cut a quarter inch or more off the base of the trunk (do not whittle the trunk to fit a small stand), give it 2 pints to a gallon of water a day, keep it away from heat, and never use lighted candles on it. For a shipped wreath it says to shake it gently and fluff the bow; for a centerpiece, add water to the floral foam when you open it and check it every two days. After the holidays you can bring the tree back for the farm’s Tree-cycle weekend, when trees are chipped into mulch on the farm. The Tree-cycle date is not published.

Finding the farm and its family

The farm is at 27 Trundy Rd in Newburgh. The Corliss family started it with a small plot of 100 trees, and Molly and Jesse Jimerson later bought it and took over. They run it with James and Mabel, and the farm is part of the MOFGA Journeyperson Program.
