Choose your Christmas tree.
Hummer Christmas Tree Farm grows balsam fir only, and the visit is choose and cut: you walk the rows, pick a tree and cut it yourself. Most trees are $70. A smaller number of select premium trees are $90; the farm marks them with a pink flag and picks them for their shape and fullness rather than their size, so a premium tree is not necessarily a bigger one.
The farm asks that you cut only trees over 7 feet tall, so that full-size trees are growing for next year, and it gives you a 7-foot measuring stick to check. If you want a smaller tree, cut a taller one and trim it at home. Its questions page says it has trees 9 to 12 feet tall, and you may cut the tall tree and take only as much of it as you want rather than dragging the whole thing back.
At the field the farm gives you a saw, a tarp for dragging the tree to the parking lot, and the measuring stick. Staff will send someone with you or put you in touch with one of its people in the field if you want help cutting and dragging. Twine is provided and helpers assist with tying the tree to your car, and you pay at the tent.

Choose-and-cut balsam fir
Everything here is choose-and-cut balsam fir. Most trees are $70 and select premium trees are $90, each priced per tree; the farm gives no per-foot rate or size ladder, and it does not say whether tax applies. Premium trees carry a pink flag and are designated for shape and fullness, not necessarily size.
The farm’s own trees come from planting stock developed by the Maine Christmas Tree Association at its seed orchard, according to the association’s listing for the farm. The farm asks that you cut only trees 7 feet or taller, and the blocks posted “No Cutting” are off limits.

One weekend, and why to come early
The farm’s tree sales are on Saturday, November 28, and Sunday, November 29, from 9am to 4pm. The farm announced those dates in early October on its website and on Facebook. One summary line on the farm’s Facebook page lists Sunday as 9am to noon, while the website and the announcement both say 9am to 4pm for both days; confirm Sunday’s closing time on Facebook if you plan a late arrival.
The farm has announced no second weekend. In an earlier season it said it might open the following weekend if it had not sold out and would announce that on Facebook. The farm has posted a sold-out notice in early December in several recent seasons, and its listing with the Maine Christmas Tree Association describes selling out very early after its busiest opening day ever, so the opening weekend is the safest time to come. The farm mentions no reservations or tickets.

| Sunday, November 29 | Open 9am–4pm on the farm’s website and announcement; the Facebook summary line says 9am–noon |

Cutting your tree, step by step
Park in the farm’s lot, and tell a staff member when you are ready to go out. The farm gives you a saw, a tarp and a 7-foot measuring stick, and it will either send someone with you or put you in touch with one of its people in the field if you want help.
Check that the tree you like is over 7 feet, stay out of the “No Cutting” blocks, and cut it. You do not need to cut it at ground level and drag the whole tree back: the farm says you may cut a bigger tree and take what you want of it. Drag the tree on the tarp to the parking lot, tie it to your car with the twine provided (helpers will assist), and pay at the tent.
Parking, payment and what the farm has not posted
The farm has a parking lot and a payment tent. It prefers credit or debit cards to checks, and cash always works; it does not mention Venmo or other payment apps. The farm has not published the size or surface of the lot, accessibility, restrooms, rules for dogs, groups, or what happens in bad weather, so ask on Facebook or by phone before you come if any of these matter to you.
No wreaths, shop or other products
This farm sells choose-and-cut balsam fir trees only. Its website, questions page and Facebook summary list no wreaths, greenery, pre-cut trees, shop, food or drink, activities, events or tours for this season. The wreath sales it has held in earlier seasons were one-off fundraisers, and none is announced for this one.
