Choose your Christmas tree.
Woods offers two ways to bring home a tree: a reserved choose-and-cut visit, or first-come shopping for precut Fraser firs from 3 to 10 feet. A $50 field reservation deposit goes toward your purchase. If no field tree suits, it can instead go toward a precut Fraser or be refunded; that specific exception is separate from the farm’s general no-refund policy.
The field range is mostly 6–9 feet. Leyland and Murray cypress run 6–9 feet, with a few Murray trees over 10 feet; Carolina Sapphire runs 6–10 feet, Scotch pine mostly 6–7 feet, and the limited Canaan fir and Norway spruce range is 6–8 feet. Cut your tree when you visit rather than tagging early. The farm recommends waiting until after December 5 for Norway spruce.

The farm visit.
Match a field tree to your decorations
The grower describes a useful difference between the cypresses: Leyland has lighter branches for lightweight ornaments, while Murray has some stronger branches. Carolina Sapphire brings a pronounced citrus scent and blue-green colour, but its branch tips dry faster than the other cypresses. If heavier ornaments matter, compare the fir, pine and spruce branches before choosing.
Keep the cut tree in water, including a shaded bucket if you are not setting it up immediately. The farm recommends recutting at least three-quarters of an inch from the trunk before placing it in its stand, and keeping the stand from running dry; cypress is particularly prone to drying without water.
| Tree choice | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Leyland cypress | 6–9ft; very light scent and branches best for lightweight ornaments |
| Murray cypress | 6–9ft, a few over 10ft; very light scent with some stronger branches |
| Carolina Sapphire | 6–10ft; citrus scent and blue-green foliage; branch tips dry faster |
| Scotch pine | Mostly 6–7ft; traditional pine scent and plenty of strong branches |
| Canaan fir | Limited 6–8ft selection; sweet fir scent and strong branches |
| Norway spruce | 6–8ft; strong branches, more needle drop; cut after December 5 |
Cutting and taking your tree home
Borrow a hand saw or bring a nonpowered saw; powered saws are prohibited. Netting and rope tie-downs are free. Most 6–7-foot trees are tagged from $85, with the tallest priced up to $149; your individual tag determines the purchase price.
A towel, blanket or tarp is useful for kneeling while cutting. Bad weather may allow a necessary reschedule, but the farm does not promise an unconditional weather refund.
Weekends, gifts and a private fire
Weekend bonfires and hot chocolate or cider accompany the Christmas visit, with photo props, Santa letters, snowball play and local crafts and gifts for sale. The separate private firepit costs $60 and includes a deluxe s’mores selection, one carafe of cocoa and one of cider; book that experience separately.
Make a fresh wreath
Public wreath classes cost $55 per person, with up to ten attendees. Materials include fir, pine, cedar and cypress, with decorations, premade bows and instruction; the enclosed heated workshop also offers cocoa or cider and light desserts. Wear clothes suitable for sap and glue and standing work.
A private class is $500 total for two to ten people, paid as one group; arrange availability and current cancellation terms before booking. Santa Story Time is a separate online-ticket event with a short story, time for a Santa visit and photos, followed by hot chocolate and s’mores at the pond-side firepit. Its date is still to be announced.
| Experience | Price and arrangements |
|---|---|
| Public wreath class | $55 per person; online ticket; up to 10 attendees |
| Private wreath class | $500 per group, up to 10; one group payment |
| Private firepit | $60; includes specified s’mores, cocoa and cider |
Approach, payment and pets
Use Clementown Road; some maps recognise the spelling Clement Town. Cash and major credit cards are accepted. Smoking and vaping are limited to the parking area.
The cutting FAQ permits leashed dogs on nonretractable leads no longer than six feet, while the Christmas page excludes pets from the tree lot. Confirm the permitted areas before bringing a dog.
