Choose your Christmas tree.

Snickers Gap grows hand-shaped Douglas fir and Colorado blue spruce on the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge near Bluemont. Its published selection includes trees up to 9 feet and taller specimens. Trees up to 7 feet share one price, with taller trees priced at the sales barn; use the current Prices/Map page or farm contact to confirm the charge before choosing. Small trees do not receive a lower price: the same up-to-7-foot charge applies even below that height. Confirm the season’s price before choosing; the farm has not yet posted a numeric amount.

After parking, collect a map, saw and pulling rope at the red shack. Bring the cut tree to the sales barn for tagging, pricing, shaking and baling; shaking and baling are included in the tree purchase. After payment the tree can be carried on a tractor to the parking area. Twine is supplied, but visitors secure trees to their own vehicles and the farm recommends suitable tie-down straps.

The sales barn and Snack Shack

Farm-made wreaths use greens grown here, and the barn also sells pine roping, stands, lights, removal bags, ribbons, bows and Virginia apple cider. Stand-straight drilling is offered; check compatibility with your stand.

On weekends the Snack Shack sells hot dogs, soft pretzels, hot chocolate, cider, candy and soft drinks. These are separate purchases, not included refreshments. Portable restrooms are available. The farm accepts cash, Apple Pay, Google Pay and all major credit cards.

Tools, help and group visits

Use a supplied handsaw or your own hand saw. Chainsaws, reciprocating saws, hatchets and axes are prohibited; vehicles stay out of the fields. On weekdays the farm can help single mothers and seniors who need assistance finding, cutting and bringing a tree to the barn. Cutting and carrying assistance is not available on weekends; bring enough help for a large tree, especially one 10 feet or taller.

Dogs and other pets stay home. Groups exceeding three vehicles or 15 people, and any bus or large van, must contact Steven at least two days ahead. Picnics, ceremonies and tailgating are not permitted. The gravel parking area does not establish accessibility throughout the sloping fields.

Photography arrangements

Tree-buying customers are welcome to take their own family and tree photographs during selling season. Commercial photographers require advance arrangement and a $600 payment before entering; only 20 photographer places are offered.

The posted commercial-photography cutoff combines a Wednesday label with November 26 in the announced season, which do not agree. Confirm the actual cutoff with the farm before arranging clients. Commercial sessions are not permitted after the applicable deadline.

Douglas fir or blue spruce?

The farm describes its Douglas fir as softer to the touch, with forest-green needles and moderately strong branches. Shapes range from open and naturally textured to more closely sheared, so compare individual trees rather than expecting one uniform outline.

Colorado blue spruce has stiffer needles and very strong branches for hanging ornaments, with a more open natural form. Colour varies from blue to green. If you are choosing a large spruce, bring gloves and enough carrying help; the farm does not provide weekend cutting or hauling assistance.
