Merrifield Garden Center — Fair Oaks is one of the operator’s two current Northern Virginia garden centres. Its Christmas guide compares Fraser, concolor, Turkish, noble and Douglas fir and white pine; actual branch selection and remaining sizes need confirmation rather than treating the shared guide as a stock list. Official visitor material describes a broader tabletop-to-15-foot range across the holiday offering.
The operator’s selection guide describes Fraser fir’s dense, strong branches and aroma, and concolor’s longer, softer, silvery-blue needles. Turkish fir has open lateral branches for larger ornaments and a citrus-like fragrance; noble fir has a subtle traditional evergreen aroma. Compare the actual tree’s shape, branch spacing and available height with the room and decorations you plan to use. Douglas fir is a lighter-green, softer-needled option with a sheared pyramidal shape; white pine has a softer outline and lighter fragrance but is better for lighter ornaments.

Holiday browsing
Wreaths, greenery, holiday plants and decorating goods accompany the trees. Seasonal events have their own dates and arrangements; the shared nursery’s workshop or landscape-service calendar does not automatically establish a tree-day inclusion.
The announced Holiday Night Out opens the Christmas shops at both Merrifield and Fair Oaks on November 19, 5–8pm, with holiday plants and décor, music, wine and refreshments. Use the event’s RSVP and current announcement for arrangements; this evening event is separate from ordinary store hours and does not establish the tree stock or daily refreshment offering.
The working nursery visit
General store hours are Monday–Saturday 8am–7pm and Sunday 8am–6pm; confirm holiday exceptions and tree arrival before a special trip. Friendly dogs are welcome on a leash. Wear suitable shoes, supervise children and watch for nursery carts, forklifts and vehicles. Store hours and pet welcome do not establish access through every growing area.
