Shine & Lee’s says all of its field trees are choose-and-cut and individually priced. It grows two varieties: Carolina Sapphire, with a lemon-mint, citrus-like scent and very good needle retention, and Leyland cypress, which holds its needles well as long as it is kept watered and has very little scent. Premium pre-cut Fraser fir, which the farm sets in water when it arrives at the farm, is priced by size and quality, and you call for availability.
The farm says it has beautiful trees of all sizes but publishes no heights or prices. It does not mention saws, carts or wagons. What it does describe is its three-step routine of shaking, boring and baling trees, and it asks customers to load their own trees.

Choose-and-cut Carolina Sapphire and Leyland cypress
The farm’s field trees are choose-and-cut and individually priced. Carolina Sapphire has a lemon-mint, citrus-like scent and holds its needles very well; the farm says shaping the tree builds tougher branches, so it carries light to medium-weight ornaments. Leyland cypress keeps its needles well as long as it stays watered, has very little scent and is best for lighter ornaments.
No heights or dollar figures are published for the choose-and-cut trees, so confirm what a tree costs at the farm before you cut. The farm says visitors will find trees of all sizes.
| Variety | How it is sold | What the farm says |
|---|---|---|
| Carolina Sapphire | Choose-and-cut | Lemon-mint, citrus-like scent; holds needles very well; light to medium-weight ornaments |
| Leyland Cypress | Choose-and-cut | Keeps needles well if watered; very little scent; best for lighter ornaments |
| Fraser Fir | Premium pre-cut | Short needles and sturdy branches for heavier ornaments; priced by size and quality; call for availability |

The three-step shake, bore and bale routine
The farm calls this its 3 Step VIP Treatment. First, a machine shakes out dead needles and the debris that collects in a tree. Second, a borer drills the bottom of the trunk, after a fresh cut, for any stand that needs a center hole. Third, a baler nets the tree tight and narrow so it travels easily; the farm says to cut the netting down the front when you get it home.
The farm says customers load their own trees. It does not publish a charge for the shaking, boring or baling, so ask whether it is included.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Shake | A machine shakes out dead needles and other debris. |
| 2. Bore | A fresh cut is made and a borer drills the trunk bottom for stands that need a center hole. |
| 3. Bale | A baler nets the tree tight and narrow; the farm says to cut the netting down the front. |
| Loading | Customers load their own trees. |
