Janke Tree Farm

Janke’s tree rows sit a short trip from the Christmas barn, where individually tagged pre-cut trees offer another way to choose. A field tree returns by sled, cart or a free weekend wagon ride, then gets shaken, baled and drilled for the trip home. Inside, handmade greenery, warm drinks and jumbo cookies give the visit a comfortable finish.

The farm visit.

A tree trip at your own pace

The six-acre cutting area is close enough for a short weekday walk with a tree cart or sled. On Saturdays and Sundays, free tractor-drawn wagons take visitors to and from the fields. Hand saws, tree sleds and tree wheelers are provided without charge.

Trees are tagged so you can see the species and exact price before cutting. At the barn, free shaking, baling and drilling prepare the tree for transport, and twine is available. Very large trees over 12 feet may be too heavy or wide for the shaker, baler or drill, so discuss the handling plan before choosing one.

Handmade greenery and a warm drink

The barn sells decorated and plain wreaths in 22- and 36-inch sizes, 15-foot Fraser fir garland, centerpieces, table runners, wall swags, porch pots and bundles of greens. Handmade wreaths and swags are sold first come, first served, and some greenery is made in limited quantities. Centerpieces use water-holding foam to keep their greens supplied with moisture. Ornaments, candles, tree food, removal bags and watering tubes can help finish the tree setup.

Coffee, hot cocoa and jumbo cookies are sold for a warm break. Candy canes for adults and children, dog treats and pickup bags are free.

Daylight and practical stops

For cut-your-own, arrive before 5:30 p.m. to leave time to choose and move the tree before dark. The rows contain young trees and irrigation, which is why the farm sets an earlier field-arrival cutoff than the barn’s closing time. A portable toilet is available, along with hand sanitizer, paper towels and tissues.
