Shell’s grows four kinds of tree: Leyland cypress, Carolina Sapphire, Virginia pine and Blue Ice cypress. The farm’s trees page shows one tree of each kind in the field but gives no description of their foliage, scent or needle retention, and publishes no sizes.
The farm’s trees page also notes that imported northern trees are available, and its season-hours graphic names Fraser fir alongside its locally grown trees. The farm does not publish Fraser fir sizes or prices or say what month they arrive (in a Facebook reply the farm confirmed Fraser firs would be ready on “the 22nd”, month not stated); its Instagram profile describes cut-your-own and pre-cut trees without saying which kinds are pre-cut.

Tag it, cut it, shake it, drill it, net it, load it
Shell’s is family operated. You choose your tree in the field and take a tree tag, a measuring pole and, if you want one, a hand saw. You give the staff the row color and number of the tree you chose, and they cut it for you.
The farm then puts the tree through a tree shaking machine to remove loose needles, aligns it straight and drills it for the farm’s stand, nets it for easy transport and has staff load it safely and secure it. The farm does not say whether any of these steps costs extra. Tree prices are not published; confirm at the farm.
| Step | What the farm says |
|---|---|
| Tag and measure | Get a tree tag, a measuring pole and a hand saw if wanted |
| Cut | Give the staff the row color and number and they cut the tree |
| Shake | A tree shaking machine removes loose needles |
| Drill | The tree is aligned straight and drilled for the farm’s stand |
| Net | The tree is netted for easy transport |
| Load | Staff safely load and secure the tree |

Four home-grown trees and imported Fraser fir
The farm’s own Facebook page describes the four varieties it grows as Leyland cypress, Virginia pine, Carolina Sapphire and Blue Ice. Each is photographed as a single tree in the field on the trees page, with no further detail.
Imported northern trees are available, and Fraser fir is named on the farm’s season-hours graphic. Sizes and prices for any tree are not published.
