Choose your Christmas tree.

Beavers grows only Alabama trees, and the farm says every tree is cut fresh the day you visit. It sells five kinds: Virginia pine, with a strong pine scent, short stiff needles and stiff, strong limbs; white pine, with long soft needles, flexible branches and a light scent, which the farm calls the only farm in Central Alabama to have it; Carolina Sapphire, blue-green with soft feathery needles and a strong citrus-like scent; Blue Ice, which the farm calls its most silver-blue tree and says is similar to Carolina Sapphire; and Leyland cypress, with a very light scent that the farm says suits early decorating, in limited inventory.

The farm says all trees are sprayed and treated for bugs. It tags trees by size and quality, and charges $10 per foot for the four varieties it prices. The farm does not publish a height range, a minimum or maximum, or a tax statement. It also offers no Fraser fir, wreaths, snow flocking or living trees, and it has no hay rides.

Cutting, shaking, netting and loading

Saws are provided, and you may bring your own. Once you have cut your tree, the farm’s staff load it, shake and net it and deliver it back to checkout, and you can pick up a tree removal bag at checkout. The farm does not publish a charge for shaking or netting, and its home page presents them as part of the visit.

The farm’s long-standing guide to a visit warns of fire-ant mounds, stumps, blackberry vines and uneven ground, and advises comfortable shoes, rain gear and gloves for the person cutting and the person loading, and mentions mud. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash at all times, and owners clean up after them. The farm also posts an Alabama agritourism inherent-risk notice.

The Beavers family, getting there and contacts

Paul and Carolyn Beavers planted their first Virginia pines in 1990, opened the farm for business in 1995 and describe themselves as selling Alabama trees for 30 years to third-generation customers. The farm is about 25 miles northeast of downtown Birmingham; its directions page gives the GPS coordinates, map links and a hand-drawn route map.

For questions, call (205) 527-1192 or email beaverstreefarm@gmail.com. Some third-party directories list a different phone number; the number printed on the farm’s own site and Facebook page is the one above. The farm posts season updates on its Facebook page.
