Cole’s grows four kinds of tree for choose-and-cut: Leyland cypress, Murray cypress, Carolina Sapphire (a blue Arizona cypress) and Virginia pine. The farm describes Leyland as having little aroma and no sap, which it presents as friendly to visitors with sap allergies. Murray cypress grows faster, is a darker green and has stiffer limbs for heavier ornaments. Carolina Sapphire has a beautiful blue color and is aromatic and soft to the touch. Virginia pine has needles in pairs, 1.5 to 3 inches long, on stout woody branches that hold heavy ornaments.
All four are priced from one table by height, from $45 for a tree under 8 feet up to $125 for a tree 16 feet and up, with no separate price for each kind. The farm also sells fresh-cut Fraser fir, which it picks up in North Carolina, in sizes from 5 to 10 feet starting at $60, with larger sizes on request. Fraser fir is pre-cut, not grown or cut here.

Choose-and-cut trees and prices by height
Cole’s is a choose-and-cut farm with several kinds of tree to choose from. You walk the field, pick the tree you want and cut it yourself with the saws and measuring sticks the farm provides, or the farm will cut it for you. Trees are priced based on height from a single table, so the price depends on how tall the tree is rather than on which kind you choose.
The farm publishes no per-foot rate and does not describe tagging or how a tree on the boundary between two ranges is priced, so ask before you cut.
| Tree height | Price |
|---|---|
| Under 8 feet | $45 |
| 8–10 feet | $55 |
| 10–12 feet | $65 |
| 12–14 feet | $85 |
| 14–16 feet | $100 |
| 16 feet and up | $125 |

The trees in the field
The farm describes each kind of tree on its trees page. Leyland and Murray are both cypress; Carolina Sapphire is the blue one; Virginia pine is the only pine, with stout woody branches the farm calls great for heavy ornaments. The farm does not say which kinds are in the field on a given day, so ask when you arrive if you have your heart set on one.
| Tree | What the farm says |
|---|---|
| Leyland cypress | Little aroma and no sap, presented as friendly to people with sap allergies |
| Murray cypress | Faster growing, darker green, with stiffer limbs for heavier ornaments |
| Carolina Sapphire | Beautiful blue color, wonderfully aromatic and soft to the touch |
| Virginia pine | Needles in pairs, 1.5 to 3 inches long, on stout woody branches for heavy ornaments |
Fresh-cut Fraser fir
If you want a Fraser fir, the farm sells fresh-cut trees that it picks up in North Carolina. Sizes of 5 to 10 feet are priced from $60 on up depending on size, and larger sizes are available on request. These are pre-cut trees brought in for sale, separate from the choose-and-cut field and its height-based price table.
Cutting, baling, loading and delivery
Cleaning and baling your tree is at no charge. The farm will load the tree onto your vehicle, but you are responsible for tying it down. Local delivery is available within a reasonable distance of the farm for a small fee, which the farm offers for visitors without a truck or who need help setting a tree up; it does not publish the fee or the distance.
The farm offers a discount to any church or business wanting a tree and does not publish the amount, so ask when you get in touch.

The farm offers Fraser fir wreaths and sells Rebar and Cinco tree stands. Its Christmas Barn gift shop sells tree bags, water funnels, tree stands, fresh wreaths, tree preservatives and some ornaments. Students also take a hayride around the tree field and see the farm’s other operations.
