Find your tree

Choose your Christmas tree.

Hirt Tree Farm calls itself a small, family-owned choose-and-cut farm, now in its fourth generation of Hirts, and invites families to join theirs in creating lasting traditions by cutting down the perfect tree. Visitors choose a tree in the field and cut it themselves.

The farm lists seven species this season, from blue spruce to white pine, with the ranges in the table below. One price by height covers all the spruces, firs and white pines, so a 7-foot Douglas fir and a 7-foot Fraser fir cost the same.

No appointments are needed: it is first come, first choose, first cut.

On weekends the farm accepts cash, credit, debit and checks. Monday through Friday it accepts cash only. The farm’s wording counts Fridays as weekdays and mentions no exception for Black Friday, so plan on cash for any Friday visit. Paying cash saves $5 per tree.

The farm does not drill trees, but it sells tree stands that do not require you to drill your tree; stand styles and prices are not posted. Dogs are welcome on a leash at all times.

Live trees, wreaths and greens

Live trees are dug and balled at $22 per foot with a four-foot minimum, and the farm requires a deposit. The species available as live trees, pickup timing and the deposit amount are not posted.

The Maryland Christmas Tree Association’s listing for the farm mentions homemade wreaths and swags, holly bundles, and cutting and loading help; the farm’s own page does not mention them, and no sizes or prices are posted, so ask whether they are available on the day of your visit. The farm’s page does not list pre-cut trees.

The farm’s FAQ invites professional photographers who would like to do a session on the farm to email melinda.hirt@gmail.com for more information. No dates, fees, hours or rules are published for sessions, and this is separate from an ordinary tree visit.
