Find your tree
Choose your Christmas tree.
Good Spirits sells trees from its own fields by choose-and-cut, from the day after Thanksgiving until the trees are sold out. Visitors walk the farm and choose from thousands of trees in sizes up to 20 feet. The farm grows blue spruce, Norway spruce, concolor fir, Fraser fir and white pine for Christmas, and the Maryland Christmas Tree Association also lists Canaan fir.
You can cut the tree yourself or ask for help when staff are available. The Maryland Christmas Tree Association lists saws, tree carts and a tractor-drawn wagon for larger trees. The farm’s pages describe choose-and-cut only; if you would rather buy a tree that is already cut, ask whether any are on hand.
The farm says that if you leave a couple of healthy branches on the stump, it will shape them into a new Christmas tree, and some stumps are already growing their third. For every tree cut, a replacement seedling is planted the following spring.
The Association also lists fresh pine roping made on the farm. The farm’s own pages do not mention wreaths, gifts or pre-cut trees.

| Trees 13 feet and larger | Add $20 per foot “From 13 feet and larger an additional charge of $20 per foot.” The farm does not say whether this applies to every foot over 7 or only to the feet from 13 up, so ask for the total before you cut. |
| Shaking, baling and drilling for pin-type stands | Free Provided free of charge; the largest spruce may not fit the baling equipment. |
Getting the tree home and keeping it fresh
The farm provides shaking, baling and drilling for pin-type stands free of charge. Some of the largest trees, especially spruces, may not fit through the baling equipment, and the farm’s advice is blunt: think about how you will get the tree home before you cut it. Customers are responsible for securing the tree for transport, so bring rope and measure your vehicle against the tree you pick.
At home, put the tree in water right away and cut about half an inch off the trunk before it goes in the stand. Keep the baling string on until the stand is set, keep the stand full and check the water daily.
Warm-Up Shed, trails and weekend extras
Stop at the Warm-Up Shed for hot chocolate or apple cider, and use the patio to linger. The farm invites visitors to explore its woodland hiking trails; trail length, terrain and accessibility are not described. The Maryland Christmas Tree Association lists the hot chocolate, coffee and cookies as free; the farm’s own page does not mention a price.
The Association also lists free bluegrass music on the second weekend of the season and tractor-drawn hayrides on weekends. No dates, hours or fees for either are posted for the coming season, so ask the farm before planning around them.
Separately, the farm’s hayride page describes hayrides by appointment for group or family outings in the fall, with a bonfire and snacks or hot cocoa on request. That page is dated to an earlier season and carries no current prices; it is not part of the December tree visit.
Live trees to plant after Christmas
Good Spirits also sells live, pre-dug Christmas trees with root balls, typically 4 to 7 feet tall. The farm advises keeping a live tree indoors for only 7 to 10 days before planting it outdoors, with a planting hole of about 36 inches across and 18 inches deep, and it publishes planting instructions on its landscape pages. Live balled-and-burlapped trees are otherwise dug by appointment in spring and fall.
A separate landscape-tree price list, posted for the nursery side of the farm, shows the kind of figures involved. It is not a Christmas price list, and the farm does not say whether it applies to the Christmas-season live trees.
| Tree | Price per foot |
|---|---|
| Concolor fir | $20 per foot |
| Blue spruce | $20 per foot |
| Norway spruce | $18 per foot |
| White pine | $16 per foot |
| All dug trees | Plus 6% tax and a $35 digging and wrapping charge per tree; 30-inch root ball in burlap and a wire basket; priced for pickup at the loading dock. |
Finding the farm on Old National Pike
From Interstate 70, take Exit 32B and follow U.S. 40 West about a mile to the first traffic light. Turn left onto Edgewood Drive, which becomes Alt 40, and continue about three miles. A log cabin and the farm’s sign mark the entrance on the left side of the road.
The farm’s name has a story behind it: the pre-Civil War house on the property was believed to be haunted, but, as the farm puts it, the spirits turned out to be benevolent.
