Find your tree

Choose your Christmas tree.

Feezers Farm is a cut-your-own farm: the staff are there to help, but the family’s own message is that you and your children will have a great time cutting down your own tree. The farm-grown choices are Norway spruce, Colorado blue spruce and white pine, in sizes up to ten feet. If you need something taller, the farm will recommend another local tree farm.

Fraser fir is also sold, but fresh-cut. The farm buys those pre-cut Fraser firs from another farm and says plainly that they are not organic, so they are separate from the trees grown in its own fields.

The farm does not post tree prices on its website or in the listings that describe it, so ask about the price of the tree you choose before you cut.

Four species, in the farm’s words

The farm describes each species by branch strength, needles and colour, which helps when you are choosing how heavy your ornaments will be.

Feezers Farm: tree species
SpeciesWhat the farm says
Norway spruce (Picea abies)Strong branches for ornaments, short needles, sage-green colour.
Colorado blue spruce (Picea pungens)Strong branches, short stiff needles, in blue, gray and green shades.
White pine (Pinus strobus)Prefers lighter ornaments; long, soft, light green needles.
Fraser fir (Abies fraseri), fresh-cutStrong branches, short bicolor needles in green and silver. Bought from another farm; not organic.

Bow saws, free baling and hot chocolate

You can borrow one of the farm’s sharp bow saws, and Baltimore County’s tourism guide lists the bow saws as free. Chainsaws are not allowed. After you cut, the farm bales your tree in netting so it is easy to transport and carry into your home, and it advertises that baling as free.

The farm’s Facebook page and Maryland’s Best, the state producer program, list baling and hot chocolate as free. The farm’s website does not mention hot chocolate, so ask when you arrive.

Payment is by cash, check or Zelle; the farm does not take credit cards. Dogs are welcome, and the farm asks visitors to pick up after them.

An organic family farm

Feezers describes itself as a small family-owned organic Christmas tree farm. It says it uses no chemical fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides. The farm began as Feezers Tree Farm in the 1970s and has more than doubled in size since then.

The farm invites visitors to follow it on Instagram and tag @feezersfarm in their photos.

Looking after your tree at home

Saw off about half an inch to an inch of the trunk just before the tree goes into its stand. Fill the stand with warm water to capacity and check it daily, because many trees drink more than a pint of water a day.
