Rick’s gives tree shoppers a useful way to compare shape, fragrance and ornament support. A full, wide fir creates a different effect from a more open natural white fir or long-needled pine. The nursery’s variety guide describes those differences; ask which of the featured varieties are available when you visit.

The guide highlights balsam fir for fragrance and strong horizontal branches, Fraser for its frosted green needles and strong, slightly upward branches, and Noble for a full shape with sturdy branches. Its Nordman selection is wide, symmetrical and softly needled with a lighter fragrance. The earlier variety guide describes natural white fir from forest thinning in New Mexico and has more open spacing.

For a different texture, Scotch pine has an open form and stiff branches, while white pine has long, soft needles and lighter, wispy branches suited to lighter ornaments. Blue spruce has a full shape and very stiff branches, but its needles are spiky. Prices depend on the size and the cost of producing the variety; the published catalogue adds numeric examples below, with grade, size and stock needing individual confirmation.

The current catalogue also lists Concolor fir, Canaan fir and Black Hills spruce, alongside the firs, pines and blue spruce in the earlier choosing guide. A 3–4-foot Fraser comes with a table stand; larger named tree entries reach 14 feet. Separate listings can have overlapping size bands and different grades or prices, so ask about the actual tree rather than treating one range as a fixed per-foot rate. The catalogue’s tree entries are marked Out of Stock, so treat these as published examples while checking renewed arrivals and the actual selection.

Fresh cut, stand and water

The operator’s earlier care guide says each real tree receives a fresh trunk cut before leaving the lot, and staff can put your stand on the tree for you. Bring the stand you intend to use and discuss the fitting service and any charge with the team before purchase.

Measure both height and width at home. The operator advises using a stand sized for the tree rather than shaving the trunk to fit, with enough water capacity for the trunk diameter. Put the freshly cut tree into water promptly, keep the reservoir filled and place it away from major heat sources. Its care guide suggests at least one quart of reservoir capacity per inch of trunk diameter, checking water twice daily in the first week and daily after that. If setup is delayed, keep the tree cool, out of the wind and in a full bucket of water.

Parking and online pickup

Front parking is at Uintah and 19 th Street. More parking and the nursery entrance are one block south at 1830 Armstrong Avenue. This is the rear entrance to the same business, and it is also the place for online curbside pickup. A ramp by the parking lot and a side staircase connect the upstairs store with the downstairs nursery; either area’s registers can take payment. Ask about the particular winter route and assistance you need.

Website orders are pickup only. Wait for the ready email: Rick’s aims to process orders the same day but says they may take 48 hours or longer, particularly when volume is high or an order is placed on Friday or Saturday. Pickup is during business hours in the designated nursery spaces; follow the order instructions when you arrive. Larger orders may qualify for separately arranged local delivery, which should be discussed before ordering. At pickup, call 719-632-8491 with your first and last name and designated parking-space number; online orders do not include shipping.

Christmas trees, wreaths, greenery and other living holiday décor are excluded from refunds. Choose the tree and seasonal items carefully before completing the purchase. The 25% restocking charge for eligible returned curbside orders does not override those holiday exclusions, and the separate landscape tree-and-shrub warranty is not a cut-tree guarantee.

Compare the published tree choices

The online catalogue is a useful starting point for comparing the budget and room size. It mixes fresh-cut trees, stands and an artificial option, and its stock fields do not establish availability for your visit. The grouped tree examples below retain the actual size and grade differences.

Some entries overlap: the Balsam #1 six-to-eight-foot listing is $49.99 while individual five-to-ten-foot bands are $64.99–$159.99; Fraser’s six-to-eight-foot entry also differs from its narrower bands. Ask the team to identify the tree and grade you are buying, rather than assuming the lower range applies to every tree of that height.

Wreaths, greenery and holiday plants

The named wreaths, swags, holly, boughs and garland quoted here are catalogue entries marked Out of Stock. Check renewed selection before planning a display around a particular item.

The fresh-greens range includes plain or decorated Fraser and Douglas fir wreaths, mixed greenery and Noble-fir mixes with cones. Plain 18-inch Fraser or Douglas wreaths are listed at $24.99 and 20-inch at $29.99. Decorated 18-inch versions are $32.99; the 20-inch Douglas is $36.99 and Fraser $37.99. Larger mixed wreaths provide other door or wall choices, with outside size and decoration changing the price.

Mixed-greenery plain wreaths are listed at 20 inches $34.99,26 inches $39.99,30 inches $49.99 and 36 inches $64.99. Decorated 26,30 and 36-inch versions are $46.99, $59.99 and $74.99. Noble mixes with cones come in 20,24 and 28 inches at $34.99, $39.99 and $44.99. Check the actual finished wreath, size and stock before planning a display.

Door swags are listed at $24.99 or $34.99 for the premium mixed-evergreen version, holly bunches at $14.99, and Fraser boughs at $2.99 per pound. Fresh Douglas garland is listed at $2.99 but the displayed entry does not state a unit; ask how it is measured and priced.

For a living gift, the poinsettia range includes red, white, pink, marble, Jingle Bells, Cinnamon, Picasso, Ice Crystal and burgundy in selected pot sizes. Most 4.5-inch listings are $10.99, with burgundy $11.49;6.5-inch options are $18.99 or $21.99 depending on the variety. Several descriptions identify Welby Gardens as the grower. Amaryllis bulbs include red Ferrari/Red Lion, white Christmas Gift/White Nymph and patterned Minerva, plus Double Dragon/Double Dream, at $22.99. Paperwhite Inbal and Ziva are listed at $1.99; check the unit and planting instructions for your choice. The named poinsettia and amaryllis entries and Ziva are marked Out of Stock. Inbal does not carry that label; confirm actual availability rather than treating that omission as an in-stock guarantee.

Rick’s earlier greenery-care guide suggests hydrating cut ends for a few hours or overnight before hanging, then keeping greens cool and shaded, away from heat and direct sun. Mist the back daily in dry conditions. Amaryllis descriptions suggest 6–10 weeks from planting to bloom, so buy for the growing experience rather than a guaranteed Christmas flower date.

Make a wreath in the nursery greenhouse

The three advertised Saturday workshops run 10–11 am on November 21, December 5 and December 19. Each ticket is $49.99. The crew guides the evergreen wreath assembly and explains how to care for it at home.

Materials include the live evergreen garland, frame, paddle wire, pinecones, bow and shears with wire cutters. Gloves are recommended; bring your own shears or optional flowers and dried decorations if you want a personal finish. A guest may accompany you, but anyone making another wreath needs another ticket.

Classes meet in the nursery greenhouse off Armstrong Avenue; the class directions give 600 North 18 th Street, Colorado Springs 80904. Use those class directions rather than assuming the workshop entrance is the main Uintah storefront. Check remaining places before planning around a date.

Tickets have no refund or credit for a no-show or other attendance problem unless Rick’s cancels the class. Review that condition before buying.

Stand sizes and finishing supplies

The stand, removal-bag, Pursell preservative and artificial-tree examples here are catalogue entries marked Out of Stock; confirm renewed supply before relying on a particular size or product.

Match stand height, trunk diameter and water capacity before choosing. The published options below have different limits; a stand’s manufacturer warranty does not guarantee the Christmas tree. Other entries include a six-foot Cinco Advantage stand at $24.99 and a Santa’s Helper six-to-eleven-foot stand at $49.99, with fewer specifications displayed.

A removal bag is listed at $3.99: place it over the trunk before fitting the stand, hide it beneath a tree skirt, then pull it up around the tree when it is time to remove it. Liquid or granular preservatives are separate $2.99 listings, with anti-transpirant products also sold. They are optional products, rather than a requirement or a guaranteed display life.

An artificial 7.5-foot pre-lit Fraser-style tree is separately listed at $349.99. It is a different product from the fresh-cut firs. The gift-card form offers recipient details, purchase, redemption and balance options and states cards are nonrefundable; check its current conditions before purchase.
