Choose your Christmas tree.

Look for a naturally shaped balsam fir among dense woodland stands and uneven, rooted ground. Trees are at least four feet tall, with one $30 price through eight feet and larger trees negotiated with the farm.

Windy Acorn uses coppicing: the lower living branches are left to grow another tree. Ask staff to show you an example before cutting, and wear boots and warm clothes for the woodland search.

Cutting a coppiced tree

Park in the driveway or along the road and check in before heading behind the house to the trees. Staff may be helping another visitor, so wait for directions and a demonstration if needed.

Borrow a hand saw and follow the farm’s cutting method. Cut at hip height or higher, leaving at least two whorls of living branches on the stump. You can trim the tree after cutting if needed.

Pay for the tree you cut rather than abandoning it. Chainsaws are prohibited.
