Choose a balsam or Fraser fir at Maple Hill’s Barton planting. Seasonal photo opportunities are part of the farm’s described offering; confirm the opening-day plan and arrangements directly with the operator.
Use the Barton tree-field address, not the separate farm-stand address on Lake Road in Newport.
Fraser fir has a milder fragrance, sturdy branches and good needle retention; balsam offers a stronger spicy fragrance. Compare the shape and branches with your ornaments in mind.

Artisan wreaths and farm products
Artisan balsam-bough wreaths, maple products and honey are available from the operator. The farm’s separate stand is at 2265 Lake Road in Newport; its opening hours and shopping arrangements should not be used as the Barton tree-field schedule.
The Newport stand is usually open roughly 10am–6pm when its flag is out and doors are open. Its selection includes maple syrup, cream, sugar, jelly and seasonings, honey, eggs and cider concentrate.

| 18-inch ring | 25–27 inches | $50 |
Taking care of the tree
The farm recommends a fresh cut of a couple of inches from the base before putting the tree in water. Keep the base submerged, check the water daily—a tree may drink a gallon—and position it away from heat.
