South Farm grows and trials several firs rather than offering one uniform crop. Fraser is described for blue coloring and firm branches; Canaan for a full shape and a familiar balsam-like scent. Korean fir has silver-backed needles, and the Korean–balsam cross is described for fullness, a citrus note and a white flash from the needle undersides. Fralsam and balsam are also part of the growing story.
Some species descriptions attach availability to earlier plantings or limited harvests. Ask which varieties and heights are ready now rather than treating every named species as a current cutting choice. The farm has not posted a useful tree-price grid in the reviewed information, so discuss the actual selection and price with Nigel before cutting.
Colored field tags identify the farm’s species and quality grades. They are inventory marks, not a published customer advance-reservation system.

Handmade wreaths for the door
The farm describes a limited supply of front-door wreaths around 24–26 inches. Larger and specialty wreaths are made by advance order, so enquire early about the size and decoration you want rather than expecting every custom option on the sales days.
Email Nigel at manley1515@gmail.com for a special wreath or a weekday appointment. The tree-growing association also lists stands, watering funnels and farm clothing; ask about the actual seasonal shop selection when arranging your visit.
How this small fir crop is grown
Friends and family plant roughly 850 transplants each spring. Fertilizing, weed control and species-specific hand shearing follow through the growing season, with each saleable tree checked for color, density and height before harvest.
The farm experiments with cardboard and two to four inches of woodchips as mulch, comparing that approach with chips alone. The aim is to hold moisture and reduce weeds and mowing; the experiment is a growing approach, rather than a claim of proven results or certified-organic production.
A mix of tree species, together with other crops such as garlic, is part of the farm’s effort to remain resilient. Those other crops explain the working landscape, rather than promising a December picking activity.
Other programs by separate arrangement
Nigel also offers customized spirit-tasting programs at bars, restaurants and private homes. Scotch, Irish whiskey, bourbon, tequila, gin or rum can be the focus, with history and pairing elements tailored to the host. Enquire directly about the place, format and charge.
These are separately arranged programs, rather than an included tree-farm tasting room or part of a Christmas-tree purchase. The tree visit, custom wreath order and off-site program each need their own arrangement.

Tree season: Homepage lists November 21–22 opening; season year is not specified
The tree subpage still lists November 22–23, while the homepage lists November 21–22. Confirm the actual opening date rather than treating either undated line as a confirmed new-season calendar.

Use the tree-specific weekly pattern rather than generic contact-page hours. Bring cash: the homepage also lists checks, but the tree subpage still says cash only, so confirm check acceptance if needed.
