McGee’s is a choose-and-cut farm on a 20-acre plantation in the Apple Hill region, east of Placerville, with easy walking paths. The farm helps you cut your own tree and provides every saw; visitors may not use a saw from home. There is one price for any tree of any size or variety, $145 cash or $150 by credit card, with tax and packaging included.
The farm grows Douglas fir, white fir, Noble fir and Silvertip. It cuts with a stump-culturing approach: branches left on the stump are nurtured so a new tree grows from the same base. The county growers’ listing also names Swift Silver and Canaan fir for this farm; the farm’s own page lists the four above, so ask on the day which varieties are standing.

Candy canes, photos and other things to ask about
The county growers’ listing says the farm gives out free candy canes. You may take as many family photos as you like, and the person cutting your tree can help take a family picture. Commercial and professional photographers must contact the farm to schedule a session and agree on site fees; no fee is posted.
The El Dorado County Christmas Tree Growers listing mentions fresh pre-cut trees and wreaths; the farm posts no prices or dates for them, so ask whether they are available before you count on them. No food, rides, events or group visits are listed.
