Find your tree
Choose your Christmas tree.
Tonry interplants different species through its fields, so there is no single species block to head toward. The published crop includes white spruce and concolor, with balsam, Fraser and blue spruce also named. The latest seasonal update highlighted five-to-seven-foot trees; the broader guidance says most trees are seven feet or shorter, with some taller trees possible. Treat those as a retained introduction to the fields, rather than current stock directions.
Fraser offers strong branches and silvery needle undersides, concolor has longer blue-green needles and a citrus scent, and balsam brings a strong traditional fragrance. Compare the actual ready tree’s shape, height and price before cutting.
No advance tagging is allowed, and decorations left on trees are removed rather than treated as reservations. No appointment or reservation is required in the posted baseline. Hand saws are supplied, and power saws are prohibited.

Which variety suits your decorations?
General tree guidance; the farm’s selection, sizes and services are described above.

- Concolor fir
- Longer, silver-blue needles with a citrus scent when crushed.
- Blue spruce
- Blue to silver-blue foliage with sharp needle tips.
- White & Black Hills spruce
- Gray-green to blue-green needles, less sharp than blue spruce.

Bring the tree back from the fields
Sleds and a haywagon are used for tree retrieval. This is a way to return the cut tree, rather than a promised recreational hayride. Normal-size netting and twine are available for transport; a larger tree may require your own rope.
The farm expressly does not offer shaking or trunk drilling. If your stand needs a drilled trunk, plan that requirement before selecting a tree. Leashed dogs are welcome if owners clean up after them.
Wreaths, mailbox greenery and birch reindeer
Mixed-greens decorated wreaths are described in 24- and 36-inch sizes, with twelve-inch specialty wreaths using fresh ornamental material. Red velvet bows are the standard, with other bows available on request. Small decorations and mixed-green mailbox covers add options beyond a front-door wreath.
The signature birch reindeer are another farm-made Christmas decoration to look for. Choose from the actual shop selection and ask the individual item’s price; these products are separate from the flat tree offer.
A family project that became a tree farm
Tonry’s Christmas trees began as a family 4-H project after Herb and Alice moved to the farm with their six children. The work continued through Abby and later generations, making today’s tree visit part of a longer family growing tradition.
A conservation easement with the Southeast Land Trust protects the landscape while the family continues farming it. That preservation story is part of the setting, rather than evidence of extra visitor access beyond the open tree fields.
