Third Stone is a choose-and-cut farm with balsam, Fraser and Canaan fir, alongside many Fraser–balsam hybrids. Balsam brings the classic fragrance, while Fraser’s firm branches offer a different shape for decorating. Korean fir is named in the FAQ, but the separate species page places it among future plantings; ask about Korean fir before making it the reason for your trip. The actual choice depends on which trees are ready in the open fields.

The current price page describes plenty of trees taller than eight feet, many in the ten-to-twelve-foot range and some around fifteen feet. Prices rise by height, with a separate tall-tree table. If a particular size matters, contact Tim before travelling; a published size range is not a reservation of an individual tree.

Hand saws and tree carts are provided, or bring your own hand saw. Power saws are not permitted. The farm’s separate appointment link handles visits, but it does not establish that a particular height or variety will be set aside.

The farm’s tall-tree table and its “over 10ft at $17 per foot” wording do not define the boundary in the same way. The rows retain the posted bands; ask Tim about the exact measured tree and final price before cutting. Cash is preferred; checks, debit and credit cards are accepted.

A cabin warm-up after cutting

After choosing and cutting your tree, the farm describes hot cider and cocoa for the family, a woodstove in the cabin and a campfire for roasting marshmallows. These are simple seasonal comforts attached to a small working-farm visit, rather than a timed attraction program.

Choose the right appointment arrangement

Appointments on the early days help manage visits with fewer staff; the calendar distinguishes preferred appointments from the weekday requirement.

Book a weekday visit through the farm’s linked appointment calendar before travelling. For a particular tree size or another question, Tim’s farm number is the direct enquiry contact.

Growing trees with the soil in mind

Third Stone describes a 24-acre farm with about half planted in trees, woodland and rotating fields. Hand pruning and mowing shape the crop, while harvested areas rest and receive cover crops to rebuild the soil before replanting.

The farm describes permaculture and organic growing methods and says it does not use chemical herbicides or pesticides. It is working toward USDA organic certification; those methods should not be mistaken for a claim that the farm is already certified.

The planting story includes species being tried for future harvests. White spruce and concolor mentioned as future plantings are not a promise of trees currently ready to cut, and blue spruce is described as discontinued.

Arrive by Barnstead Parade

The farm is in the Barnstead Parade area. From Route 28, turn onto Parade Road and then Garland Road; there is no direct entry to Garland Road from Route 28. The operator warns that a GPS route using Route 107 can take you the long way around.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome on a leash; bring what you need to clean up after them.
