Choose your Christmas tree.
Riverwind offers a choose-and-cut visit in Lancaster, with a fir collection that extends beyond the familiar Fraser. Its tree guide describes concolor, Nordmann and grand fir alongside Korean × balsam and Korean × corkbark crosses. The crosses have silvery or blue-green needle tones, while the choices differ in scent and branch form.
The MacNeill family’s operator page describes continuing the farm after the Wareck family. The homepage announces a November 21–22 precut and alpaca weekend followed by choose-and-cut from Black Friday, without giving a year for that event notice. Check the current selling calendar and available varieties before travelling; the special alpaca weekend does not promise animal access on every tree day.

Greens and seasonal shopping
The farm’s longstanding offering includes wreaths, bows, cider and gifts and ornaments from New England artists. Check current shop availability and prices alongside the tree selection. Photography can be booked separately at $100 per hour for exclusive farm use on a mutually agreed date and time. Arrange the session with the operator before bringing clients; this is separate from ordinary tree shopping.
Plan your Lancaster visit
Use 2415 Main Street for the tree farm. The current operator’s contact page provides an online contact route; older public phone records may predate the ownership transition, so use the operator website for current arrangements.
Check the published selling calendar
An older operator contact notice gives 10am–4pm on Saturdays and Sundays leading up to Christmas until sold out. The homepage now also advertises a separate early precut and alpaca weekend before choose-and-cut from Black Friday. Confirm the current calendar and stock before combining those notices into a trip.
Compare the fir choices
Riverwind’s variety guide describes differences in needle texture, color and branch arrangement. These are choices described by the farm, rather than a guarantee that every variety and height is ready to cut on a particular day.
| Variety | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Fraser fir | Dark blue-green needles and slightly upward-turning branches; the farm notes good needle retention. |
| Korean × balsam fir | Silvery-white needle undersides with a light citrus scent. |
| Korean × corkbark fir | Soft needles with a silvery-blue appearance. |
| Nordmann fir | Deep green needles and layered branches. |
| Grand fir | Glossy dark green needles arranged in two rows, with pale lines underneath. |
| Concolor fir | Narrow needles around 1–1½ inches long and a pleasing aroma. |
