Choose your Christmas tree.
Evergreen grows balsam, Canaan, concolor and Fraser fir, white pine, Colorado blue spruce and other varieties. Precut Fraser firs from other New England growers provide an alternative to cutting your own. On a field visit, staff help you find the type of tree you want, supply a saw and tarp, then shake away loose needles and debris and wrap the tree in netting.
After the tree is processed, pay in the Carriage House Shop. Choose-and-cut reservations are required November 27–28. The published opening schedule gives November 27–29 from 8am–4:30pm and November 30–December 4 from noon–4:30pm; check subsequent dates and stock before setting out later in the season.

The farm visit.
The Carriage House Shop
The shop has handmade mantel and table decorations, ornaments, tree stands and watering spouts, with wreaths and roping outside. A cup of complimentary hot chocolate and the firepit provide a pause after shopping; cookies are sold separately.
Before heading into the fields
Use the supplied hand saw rather than a power saw. Dogs must remain in the vehicle. Professional photo sessions must finish before the tree-selling season opens and require advance arrangement.
Photography sessions before tree season
Professional sessions cost $75 for a half day or $125 for a full day, paid to reserve a place. Photographers must provide a liability-insurance certificate naming Evergreen Farm, Robert Gauld, William Gauld and Julia Gauld as additional insureds and reference the farm on their social media. Confirm the required certificate details and session date with the farm before arranging clients.
Keep the farm roads clear for working vehicles, park in the lot and walk into the trees, and remove all props afterward. Sessions must be completed before the farm opens for Christmas tree sales. Families arranging portraits can use the farm’s recommended photographers.
Choosing among the firs
The farm’s species guide distinguishes the firs by their needles and scent. These descriptions can help narrow your choice in the field; they do not guarantee that every variety or size will be ready to cut.
| Fir | Farm’s description |
|---|---|
| Balsam | Soft, dark green needles and the traditional balsam aroma. |
| Canaan | A relative of balsam with traits of both balsam and Fraser; its needles may be less dark green. |
| Concolor / white fir | Longer needles than the other firs and a distinct citrus-like aroma. |
| Fraser | Darker green needles with silvery undersides and excellent needle retention. |
