Choose your Christmas tree.
Doe Orchards opens its choose-and-cut Christmas tree fields on the Friday after Thanksgiving and continues until the crop sells out. The tree page describes a field selection, while the practical visitor page gives tree hours of 9am–4pm and a last field entry of 3:30pm.
Leave time to choose and cut before the entry cutoff. The farm has not supplied a species list, size range or numeric tree price on these tree pages, so check for the current selection before travelling for a particular variety or tall tree.
The farm visit.
Paying and finding the farm
Use the farm at 327 Ayer Road in Harvard. The operator accepts debit and credit cards, cash and checks. Fruit-picking dates and the orchard’s autumn dog rules belong to those separate seasons; check the Christmas arrangements if you plan to bring a pet.
Summer fruit and autumn apple picking
The orchard has a separate fruit-picking season. Summer berry visits generally begin around early July, while fall apple picking starts around Labor Day. Its apple selection includes Honeycrisp, Gala, Macoun, McIntosh, Cortland, Fuji, Jonaprince, Ruby Mac and Golden Supreme, with heirloom Roxbury Russet and Calville Blanc d’Hiver among the choices. Fruit can also be bought at the stand; check what is ready before a picking trip.
Published berry hours are Tuesday–Saturday, 9am–4pm. Fall picking is Tuesday–Sunday, 10am–5pm, with Monday holidays open. Dogs are not allowed during berry picking; leashed dogs are welcome during the fall apple season. These hours and pet rules do not establish the Christmas-tree policy.
Fruit and farmstand visits in their own season
The stand’s published November hours are 10am–4pm; those hours are separate from the Christmas-tree field schedule. Local honey, cider, pumpkins and gourds are among the farmstand choices, with occasional maple syrup. Fruit, pantry goods and refreshments are separate purchases and depend on the season.
Arriving from Ayer and the rail trail
The orchard describes its location as about a mile from Ayer town center and points visitors to the Fitchburg rail line and Nashua River Rail Trail. Check the transport operator’s current service and arrange how you will carry a purchased tree before choosing a car-free visit; the orchard’s transport page does not describe a tree-delivery or station-shuttle service.
