Choose your Christmas tree.
Cranston’s offers a genuine outdoor choose-and-cut visit, with hand saws and carts available. For a longer field walk, the higher “North Pole” field grows balsam and Fraser fir; closer to the farm, the selection includes balsam, concolor, Fraser and blue spruce. Dress for the weather and choose the field that suits your outing.
Field trees and precuts are $80 plus tax unless individually priced, with trees up to 8½ feet advertised. Optional baling costs $2. The farm supplies the cutting equipment, but securing your tree on the vehicle is your responsibility. Tree tagging, chainsaws, drones and dogs are not allowed.

The farm visit.
Choose the right opening day
The first weekend is November 21–22, noon–4pm, followed by a break through Thanksgiving. Sales restart November 27 at 9am, an earlier opening than the normal Friday hours. Regular sales are Wednesday–Friday noon–4:30pm and Saturday–Sunday 9am–4:30pm; Mondays and Tuesdays are closed. The season ends December 23 at 4:30pm.
Weather can change the selling schedule; check the farm’s updates before travelling. The physical farm is in Ashfield even though its mailing address uses Shelburne Falls.
Handmade greens and maple gifts
Wreaths, swags, roping and kissing balls are handmade and sold in limited quantities, with prices marked individually. The tree shop also carries the farm’s syrup, maple cream, sugar and candy. Syrup is listed at $65 a gallon, $36 a half-gallon, $24 a quart, $15 a pint and $10 a half-pint.
Cash, checks, Mastercard, Visa and Discover are accepted. The separate year-round maple and hay line is not the main tree-season contact; use the tree-farm number for tree and weather questions.
Maple products beyond Christmas
Maple syrup, cream, candy and sugar are available beyond the Christmas shop season, with U.S. shipping by arrangement. Use 413-522-5505 for year-round maple orders; this line also serves hay enquiries. The tree/weather contact remains 413-628-0090. Spring wood-fired boiling is a different season, without a guaranteed visitor-tour timetable.
Choosing among the varieties
For a softer-needled choice, the farm describes balsam as aromatic and short-needled, Fraser as dark green with short soft needles, and concolor as bluish green with a citrus scent and medium-length needles. Blue spruce has sharp, short blue-green needles. Compare individual trees in the nearer field, or choose the longer walk to the upper balsam-and-Fraser field.
