Choose your Christmas tree.
Crane Hill grows primarily balsam fir for choosing and cutting, with staff cutting also available. Its announced field supply includes mostly 5–8-foot balsams and a few around 9½–10 feet. All available cut-your-own trees are $55; ask about current stock before travelling because the farm limits the annual harvest.
Precuts are harvested from a nearby growing field and displayed near the shop and barn, priced by size and quality. The announced selection includes balsams around 8–11 feet and one white pine approximately 13 feet tall and 8½ feet wide; these large trees are limited individual stock, so confirm availability before planning around one. Tree netting is free, and cash, checks, credit and debit cards are accepted.

The farm visit.
Plan around a limited harvest
Sales run Friday–Sunday from Thanksgiving Friday, 9am–sunset, with other days possible by advance arrangement. The farm may finish after two or three selling weekends when it reaches its harvest limit and specifically advises checking before a trip after December 6. Confirm the latest availability before setting out.
Use the Johnson Hill Road farm address in Washington. Contact the farm to arrange an off-schedule visit or help cutting; a seasonal sold-out notice does not describe permanent closure.
Approaching from Route 8
From the Pittsfield side, the operator directs drivers from Route 8 onto Lower Valley Road just beyond Washington Town Park, under the railway and then left at the fork onto Johnson Hill Road. The farm is on the left near the crest, about a third of a mile along. If that approach puts you on a dirt road, the farm says you have taken a wrong turn.
From the south, use High Street in North Becket, climb about a mile, then turn left onto Johnson Hill Road; the farm is about three-quarters of a mile along on the right. Follow the farm’s posted directions when navigation disagrees.
