Choose your Christmas tree.
Covered Bridge Ranch offers a field search for a choose-and-cut tree, a lot stocked with trees freshly cut each day, and potted trees in a published 4–6-foot range. Premium Christmas trees span 6–30 feet and start at $85; the smaller or more open Charlie Brown-style selection starts at $25. Those are starting prices, so compare the actual tree before choosing.
The ranch’s species guide helps match a tree to your decorating style. Stiff Austrian pine and Colorado blue spruce branches support heavier ornaments, while southwestern white pine has soft, lush needles and branches better suited to lighter decorations. Concolor and Douglas fir are highlighted for fragrance; the guide offers several pine, spruce and fir choices rather than guaranteeing every type is ready in every size.
A tractor-drawn wagon carries families and their selected tree back to the barns. Staff shake the tree, drill a hole if your stand requires one, net it and load it onto the vehicle. This turns the tree search into a ranch outing without asking you to carry a large tree all the way back.

Compare pine, spruce and fir
The selection guide compares branch strength, needle feel, fragrance and relative cost. Think about the weight of your ornaments and how much fragrance you enjoy, then use the guide as a starting point for checking the actual trees.
| Tree choice | Guide characteristics |
|---|---|
| Scotch pine | Strong branches, excellent needle retention, moderate aroma; inexpensive in the guide |
| Austrian pine | Stiff branches for heavy ornaments, long rich-green needles; lowest relative price |
| Black Hills spruce | Strong branches, short blue-green needles; low-to-moderate relative price |
| Colorado blue spruce | Very stiff branches and sharp needles, blue to dark green; higher relative price |
| Concolor fir | Soft silver-green needles, strong branches and high fragrance; higher relative price |
| Douglas fir | Soft short needles, moderate branch strength and high fragrance; higher relative price |
| Southwestern white pine | Long, soft blue-green needles; lighter ornaments; moderate relative price |
| Norway spruce | Rich green, strong branches and moderate aroma; moderate relative price |
| Balsam/Canaan fir | Soft dark-green needles, strong branches and fragrance; higher relative price |
Wreath barn and local gifts
In the wreath barn, choose from different wreath sizes and species, then use the decorating table’s ribbon and ornaments to make it your own. Staff can also create a custom wreath on site while you explore the Christmas village; custom horse wreaths are offered by advance telephone order.
The gift shop features work by local artists and artisans, including ornaments, knitwear, beeswax candles, etched glassware and wooden toys. It is a useful place to browse for a tree ornament or a small gift after the field search.
Animals, a fire and refreshments
The Christmas visit includes farm-animal viewing and the giant haystack, with a campfire for roasting marshmallows. S’mores are available for purchase. Cocoa and cider add a warm drink to the outing, while the concession cabin operates on Saturdays and Sundays only.
There is no admission charge, but that does not make trees, refreshments or shop purchases free. The public Christmas schedule is Wednesday–Sunday; nursery stock, hay and cattle inquiries belong to the ranch’s separately arranged appointments.
| Offering | What to know |

| Tree transport and preparation | Wagon return; shaking, stand-hole drilling if needed, netting and loading |
| Christmas village | Wreath barn, local gifts, farm animals and giant haystack |
| Refreshments | Campfire marshmallow roasting; s’mores for purchase; concession cabin Saturday–Sunday only |
More experiences: the separate fall pumpkin outing
Covered Bridge Ranch also advertises a separate fall pumpkin visit from September 26 to October 30, Friday–Sunday 10am–5:30pm. Visitors can search the four-acre pumpkin patch and walk by Spring Creek and the covered bridge. Pumpkins are sold separately, including a $25 challenge for as many as you can carry.
The fall admission program includes a zipline, a 20-minute treasure hunt and hayride, the farm-animal barrel train, human hamster wheel, hay-bale maze, corn pit, tire seesaws, climbing mountain, face painting, Rabbit Hole slide, Snake Pit, farm animals, giant spider web, super slide and creekside tire swings. These are the fall program’s activities, rather than promised Christmas inclusions.
S’mores and gem mining carry additional charges. The Grub30 food truck operates Saturday and Sunday only, with food purchases separate from admission; kettle corn and fall home décor add other food and shopping choices. Walking paths, picnic tables, campfire marshmallow roasting and bridge photo opportunities round out the outing. The ranch asks visitors to check weather and wear suitable footwear for activities and uneven ground.

Find the ranch and plan payment
The operator’s visitor map gives gate directions from downtown Montrose. Follow Main Street and the CO-90 West route through Spring Creek Road and West Oak Grove Road, then turn onto 6250 Road, also called Dave Wood Road. After the water canal, look for the ranch gate partway along the four-rail fence on the right.
Credit cards are listed as accepted in the Christmas visitor map. Confirm any current payment changes when planning the visit, and use the ranch’s current seasonal contact for questions.
